Localized Flooding around Central Iowa

Runoff from today’s snow melt has led to significant rises mainly on area creeks and smaller streams, with localized flooding in some lower-lying areas. The area of most impact is along and north of U.S. highway 30, south of U.S. highway 20, and east of U.S. highway 169. Although these rises have also led to ice jams in some locations, the streams have generally remained in their banks thus far today.

Runoff from today’s snow melt will peak later tonight before finally decreasing. Although streams are expected to remain within their banks, flooding of lower-lying areas may occur. Ice jams may also result in locally higher river stages.

Be on the lookout for flooding of lower-lying areas near streams this afternoon and evening. Be especially careful once it becomes more difficult to see the flooded areas. Remember not to drive into flooded areas.
