GETTING COLDER: There will be plenty of sunshine around this weekend, with a few clouds around, especially in our southern counties. This will be with a frontal system developing between the cold arctic air spilling in from Canada and the warmer air to the south. This will lead to varied temperatures across the state from the teens and 20s in the north to the 30s to near 40 in the south today. These will slowly drop into the teens north to lower 30s south on Sunday as the colder air wins the battle across the state. A disturbance will move across the state on Monday that may bring some light snow at that time. Currently it looks as if it could bring an inch or two but we’ll be able to pinpoint the totals down this weekend. Thereafter the cold air really comes down full force with readings falling into the teens and 20s for highs and lows in the single digits above and below zero. We could see readings drop into the teens below zero in the far northern and northeastern counties if we get lighter winds. This looks to last through the rest of the week with skies during the day remaining mainly sunny and skies at night mainly clear. Friday could see a snow chance but that doesn’t look to significant at least at this time.

MOVING ON TO MARCH: The GFS brings a storm in like a lion for the first two days of March. Warmer air will move back in that may begin the precipitation as some rain or a wintry mix but then it would change back to snow and the winds would look to become quite gusty which in turn could lead to near blizzard conditions if this were to pan out. Again this is more than a week out and is NOT a forecast, we’re just looking for any trends at this point. Thereafter the cold air would return for a few days with lows possibly back below zero on the morning of the 4th. Another system looks to move in around the 6th but the GFS is showing it to be significant at this time but we’ll keep watching it. The GFS shows what could be a quick zonal pattern which could bring us some storms every other day of so with readings near seasonal levels, but this will be a wait and see attitude at this time.
