INTO THE WEEKEND: We wave this latest storm ado and look forward to the upcoming weekend which will bring big changes regarding our temperatures which will last into next week. Today we’ll see partly to mostly sunny skies with readings in the 20s north to lower and middle 40s southwest. So some more snow will melt especially in our southern counties, if there is any left to melt. A few rivers in southeast Iowa will be near to slightly above flood stage through today into tonight. These will begin to recede into the weekend. A system will move into the state on Sunday that may bring some snow showers to mainly the southern counties of the state. This will be rounding the base of the low pressure system that moved through yesterday that will be stalling and weakening over James Bay. It will also denote where the cold air from the north will be meeting the warmer air to our south. With the state on the colder side of the system, this will mean readings will be dropping into the teens and 20s in the north to lower 30s in the south by Sunday as the system moves by.

HEADING INTO NEXT WEEK: Another disturbance on this stationary front will bring more light snow or flurry activity to the state on Monday into Monday night. This doesn’t look to be too significant at this time but we’ll continue to watch it. What will be the main story is the cold weather we’ve seen almost the entire winter coming back for a return engagement. Highs back into the teens and 20s and lows in the single digits and perhaps even below zero once again (oh joy!). There after the 00z run was stuck so the video went to using the 18z from yesterday and at this point I don’t really want to go much farther without seeing a “Current” model run to decipher what may happen in the coming days. Blame Overheated computers in the hierarchy of the government if you will.
