TWO MORE DAYS OF SNOW: We had a warm day across most of the state yesterday but cold temperatures and snow are in the forecast still both today and again on Saturday with two separate systems that will move across the state. The system today will target mainly the southern and southeastern counties of the state with some snow. This run of the GFS is fairly bullish on putting a few inches down in those areas along with the High Resolution NAM. Earlier runs had the heavier snow farther to the east and southeast across the Illinois and Indiana. Whereas there is a chance of seeing a few inches down there, we don’t expect many travel issues at this point in those areas. Saturday another system drops in from the northwest which may bring a swath of light snow across the area. An inch or two of snow is possible with this system as it tracks through but this too shouldn’t cause too many travel headaches on the major highways and thoroughfares. Highs today will be in the teens and 20s with Saturday seeing 20s and 30s across most of the state with some 40s possible in SW Iowa where the snow will miss them.

ACTIVE BEGINNING: Another system comes into the state on Monday with some interesting conditions that could bring some rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow across the state. It’s a bit too early to determine who is going to get what, but precipitation amounts look to be somewhat significant at this time. We should be able to better pinpoint what precipitation type is going to occur when and where in the state by this upcoming weekend. As for Tuesday and Wednesday, it will be partly to mostly sunny with readings back in the 30s and 40s across the state with more snow melting taking place. With this occurring we could see some fog during the late night and early morning hours as this melting of snow occurs. Another system will scrape the southeastern counties of the state late Wednesday night into Thursday morning with some light precipitation which could be in the form of rain and or a wintry mix.

ENDING THE MONTH: Another system next weekend could bring some wild weather to the state and vicinity with possible rain snow and even thunderstorms not that far away, but again this it still more than a week away and things may still change with this possible system. This would be followed by another push of cold air from the north which may bring the readings back down into the teens and 20s for highs and perhaps even seeing lows go back to near zero once again. Another system around Monday the 24th could bring some light snow or flurry activity to the state at that time. Another system at the end of the month could bring some snow as well with cold air coming in behind it heading into the first of March. We’ll watch for any trends in the coming days.
