A SNOW WARMING TREND: The next few days the state has chances of seeing more snow through Saturday but not everyone will get snow from each system. Today a system will move across Minnesota and Wisconsin that may brush the northern counties with some light snow and flurry activity. This may extend down into central Iowa but any accumulations are likely to stay along or north of the Iowa Minnesota border. A disturbance Friday morning could spark some light snow showers or flurries across southern Iowa but that too shouldn’t amount to a whole lot either. The system on Saturday still looks to target the northern and eastern counties of the state with some light snow as well. Some light accumulation is possible with that system but it’s still too early to determine actual snow amounts at this time. Highs today will be in the 30s to lower 40s (a heat wave!) with readings on Friday dropping back into the upper teens north and northeast to the lower 30s far south and southwest.

MORE WARM WEATHER: Another system will swing through the state on Monday that may bring some rain and or snow to the state at that time. It’s too early to determine amounts at this point and when the rain may change to snow all if there could be a mix in there as well. What we do know is that temperatures are likely to fall during the afternoon on Monday as the cold front swings through but the cold shot doesn’t last long because by Tuesday, readings should be back into the 30s and perhaps even 40s across the state with mainly sunny skies. Another system will move in Wednesday targeting the southeastern counties with some light rain at that time. This looks to be followed by colder air next Thursday then a brief warm up Friday with another system then much colder air the following weekend.

THROUGH THE END OF THE MONTH: The rest of the month looks to be fairly active with several chances of precipitation moving through with some quick but periodic cold snaps intermixed in as well. We’ll continue to watch for any trends over the next few days and weeks.
