FEBRUARY SNOW: We have now moved into the month of February and it’s looking as if more snow will be on its way to the state over the first week of the new month. Today we have a system pulling through the state that will be bringing some snow across the state. The heaviest amounts are likely to be in the southern and southeastern counties of the state where 3-6” of snow are possible before the system moves out later in the afternoon into the evening hours. Lighter amounts will be seen to the north, with the northwestern counties perhaps seeing no more than a dusting if that. Highs today will be in the upper teens through the 20s. Skies will slowly clear tonight with readings dropping back below zero in many areas except the far south where a few places may be able to stay just above zero. Sunday and Monday will be chilly but sunny with readings Sunday in the single digits northeast to the upper teens southwest. Monday’s readings will be in the teens and 20s statewide. The next system will be moving into the state late Monday night through the day Tuesday into Wednesday morning. This system could bring some accumulating snows to the state as well. Current thinking is the southeastern half of the state has the best chances to see the heaviest snow from this system but it’s still a bit too early to determine snowfall amounts at this time. As the storm departs on Wednesday we go back into the deep freeze with readings dropping back below zero by Thursday morning and only rising in the single digits above and below zero during the day.

NEXT WEEKEND THROUGH THE END OF PERIOD: Another system next weekend could bring even more snow to the state. This system right now looks to be the biggest of the three, but it’s still a week away and we have plenty of time to watch it over the next couple of days. Another system around the 11th and 12th could bring a mix of precipitation to the state. This looks to be followed by a quick shot of much colder air that doesn’t look to last more than a day or two. Another storm in the series looks to come around the 15th and 16th with even more snow. Of course anything 7 days or more out is pure speculation but we’ll keep our eyes on it for the time being for any trends that may arise.
