MORE SNOW: A system will move into the state today bringing some light snow and flurries to the area. Some of the precipitation may be in a wintry mix in the far south but the main accumulations should be over the northern two-thirds of the state. The far northern counties which are under a Winter weather Advisory may get as much as 1-2” of snow while the rest will receive less than that. Highs today will be in the 20s and 30s across the area. Skies will partially clear on Friday except in the southern counties where some snow is still possible ahead of the next system that will be rolling in later in the day through Saturday. This could bring yet more snow to mainly the southern half of the state at that time. Accumulations with that at this point look to be in the 2-4” bracket mainly along and south of US Hwy 34 with some isolated heavier totals close to the Iowa-Missouri Border. Highs Friday and Saturday will vary from the teens in the north to the lower 30s in the south with colder air returning statewide heading into Sunday along with sunshine and colder temperatures once again.
NEXT WEEK: The system that we’ve been watching for the beginning to middle of next week has wobbled back in our direction once again, so the snow chances are once again back in play across the state beginning late Monday night through the day on Tuesday. This run would indicate that the heaviest snow would likely take place during the morning hours of Tuesday and over the southern three quarters of the state. More cold air will follow with readings dropping back into the teens for highs and lows in the single digits above and below zero on Wednesday and slowly warming the rest of the week.
EVEN FARTHER OUT: The next system the model shows looks to come around the 8th with some light snow but it doesn’t look too significant at this time. Temperatures do look to increase as we head into the middle of February as the flow continues to be zonal. Toward Valentine’s Day we could see another system moving in that may give us some rain and not snow, but it’s way too early at this time for determining precipitation type this far out.
