ENDING THE MONTH: Much warmer temperatures are on the way today with plenty of sunshine around as well. The wind veering around to the west-southwest will boost readings into the 20s and 30s across the state. Tonight the next disturbance rolls in that may bring some light snow to the area. There is some hint that some of the precipitation could have some sleet mixed in especially over the southern counties. This will continue into Thursday as well with temperatures in the upper teens north through the 30s in the south. Amounts look to be about an inch or so. On Friday, to end the month of January, we’ll be seeing the skies partially clear. The far southern and southeastern counties could see some early flurries as readings will mainly be in the teens and 20s across the state.

MORE SNOW INTO FEBRUARY: The next system doesn’t take its time before making an appearance, rolling into the state on Saturday. This will drop perhaps an inch or two of snow which may cause some travel issues, but nothing overly serious at this time. The storm we’ve been watching around the 4th and 5th has tracked a little farther to the south so while we think there could still be some overrunning clouds with that system, any snow looks to stay across Missouri and Downstate Illinois at least at this time, however any wobble back northward could put the snow back into our southern counties.

LOVING WEATHER: A few snow systems are seen on the model run as we head farther into the month of February. We still see a system with some accumulating snow around the 7th and 8th followed by another one late on the 9th. We also see a few more systems as we head toward Valentine’s Day as well. We’ll get to them once we get these other systems out of the way first.
