Iowa Weather Report January 4th 2014

EXTREME COLD: Enjoy the cold air while it lasts. Expect highs in the teens for most of the state today before Sunday brings a ugly swarm of very cold arctic air. The National Weather Service has issued Wind Chill Watches and Warnings for much of the state for today through Tuesday. Temperatures on Sunday night are expected to be in the -10 to -20 degree range, which combined with winds will create dangerous wind chills in the -30 to -40 degree range. Cold air is expected to remain through Wednesday before returning to seasonal normals in the 20’s and 30’s for the second half of the work week. This event will be very dangerous and potentially record breaking. You know what to do during these events.

FURTHER ON: There are a couple systems on the 13th and 14th that have been consistent in recent models that may bring some light to moderate snow to the area. The period after the extreme cold event is very quiet with only light chances of snow on Wednesday and Friday. At the end of the models, several clipper systems that we have had in recent weeks will be marching through the area.
