TIME FOR THE CLIPPER PARADE: The cold weather will continue throughout the week with only the western and southwestern counties seeing any temperatures close to seasonal levels due to the lack of any snow cover on the ground there. A clipper system will move through the area later today into tonight with some light snow or a few flurries that may bring a half inch to possibly an inch at best across the state, mainly in the northern and northeastern counties of the state. Highs today will range from the single digits northeast to the lower 20s southwest. The last day of 2013 will bring yet the next clipper in the parade. This one could be significant with some snow possible beginning late Tuesday and lasting through the day on Wednesday. This one could bring a few inches of snow to the state as well. Current indications are that there may be a swath of 3-5” of snow across the state but it’s still a bit too early to pinpoint the locations at this time, but the northern half of the state looks to be the recipient of the heaviest snowfall. We’ll continue to monitor. Cold air will continue into Thursday with winds turning back around to the south and southwest on Friday that may moderate the temperatures at that time.

MORE FUN WITH SNOW: The quick warm up Friday will not last as another clipper follows on Saturday with some light snow and flurries with it as well. The front will stall just to our south with another system taking shape to our southwest. This will move just to the south of the area but it will be close enough to bring more snow to mainly the southern 2/3rds of the state late Sunday into Monday of next week. We’ll have to see more model runs before pinpointing this storm in detail, but as of this moment, this could bring some decent snows across the southern counties, along with some breezy conditions could also bring near blizzard conditions. Stay tuned for more on this storm in the coming days.

FARTHER OUT: It looks cold (as if that’s anything new) to start off the extended period. There is still a chance of some snow on the 9th into the 10th across the state, but at this time any accumulations look to be light at this time. Another system could bring some snow on the 12th and another at the end of the forecast last on the 14th. What looks to be constant is the seasonal or below seasonal temperatures through the middle of January.
