WARM DAYS: It will be unseasonably warm across the state, or it will feel like that with readings well into the 30s and 40s both today and on Saturday. It will be mainly sunny both days as well. With the amount of snow on the ground, there is a chance for some refreeze at night in areas where snow melt may run across roadways during the day. Be aware of that over the next few nights. Unfortunately the warm weather won’t last as much colder air moves in late Saturday night as temperatures will plunge not only below seasonal averages, but below zero as well.

COLD DAYS: A clipper system will sweep into the state late Saturday night into Sunday bringing with it much colder air, some light snow and flurries, but more important is the cold air. Readings will likely be steady or falling throughout the day on Sunday as winds crank in from the northwest. This will easily drop wind chills into the teens and 20s below zero late Sunday before winds begin to calm as temperatures crash into the single digits and teens below zero Monday morning. Another clipper moves in New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day which could bring a few inches of snow to the state. We’ll be able to pinpoint totals as we draw closer to the event. Cold air filters in once again behind the system as we move into the first week of the new year.

INTO JANUARY WE GO: Another clipper is possible on the 3rd that may bring some more light snow or flurries to the state. Temperatures may warm enough in the southwestern counties to get to or above freezing but this will be short lived as colder air moves back in. Another system will move in on the 6th and 7th which may bring some rain and snow. A big storm on the 9th through the 11th could bring a plethora of weather to the state from rain to snow to blizzard conditions. However before you start running for the snow blower and snow shovels. This is still more than two weeks out and is likely to change. We’re just looking for trends at this point and right now we don’t see it as yet. Stay tuned.
