MODERATION: Temperatures will begin to warm later this week ahead of another clipper system later this weekend that will plunge the temperatures back into the deep freeze across the state. Before we get to that we’ll have another clipper system that will scrape the northeastern counties of the state today with a little light snow or flurries. It shouldn’t amount to a whole lot, no more than an inch in those areas. Friday and Saturday will see temperatures back up into the 30s for highs across the state with lows in the teens to lower and middle 20s. This will be a far cry from what we’ll see at the beginning of next week, but at least it is a respite from the bitter cold we’ve been having this winter so far.

PLUNGE INTO THE FREEZER: A clipper system will plunge into the state Sunday with again some light snow or flurries across the area, with the accumulating snow likely taking place in the northern and northeastern counties with possibly an inch of snow. Readings will likely be falling through the day on Sunday as the cold air filters in. Lows will bottom out Monday morning well below zero, probably similar to the readings of a few mornings ago with teens and possibly 20s below zero being possible. Highs Monday will struggle to reach the single digits above zero (some areas may not even crack zero) Tuesday morning will also see readings down into the single digits and teens below zero as well. Another clipper later on Tuesday will bring more snow to the state at that time.

2014: Another disturbance may bring some light snow or flurries on New Year’s Day that shouldn’t amount to a whole lot. The cold air just keeps on coming with several more clippers in the first week of the new year. One on the 3rd and another on the 6th will reinforce the cold air coming from the northwest. Temperatures look to moderate on the 8th but another clipper system out of the northwest on the 9th will drive the readings back down. This may also develop a feisty system along the east coast at the end of the period which we’ll have to keep an eye on in future runs if this trend were to continue.
