COLD WEEK: A few snowflakes will be possible today over the eastern counties as another push of colder air comes in from the northwest. Highs today will be in the 30s statewide with some sunshine in the western and central counties for most of the day and in the eastern counties later as the snow will be out of the state by at least Noon. Temperatures will tumble back into the 20s to lower 30s for highs Tuesday through Thanksgiving with plenty of sunshine around. Any travel issues will be over the east coast where numerous travel delays are possible with a storm running up the coast.
INTO DECEMBER: Temperatures moderate slightly heading into Black Friday and the weekend with readings approaching 40 in some areas by Saturday. It still looks dry through at least the first half of the weekend before another storm comes in from the northwest late on Sunday into the following Monday with another shot of arctic weather and some snow showers at that time.
THE BIG PLUNGE: In the extended period, the system that is over the Pacific Northwest at the end of next weekend will dive to the southeast and then move northeast toward us around the 3rd through the 6th with some rain to start followed by some period of snow. The GFS on this run, shows a break with more snow possible as another low forms and rides northeast farther to the south and southeast. We saw this a few days ago on this model but it then disappeared so we’ll have to keep watching this. In any case, MUCH colder air will dump into the country, possibly dropping highs into the teens (if not colder) and lows down into the single digits below zero (if not colder with possible snow cover). It stays cold through the end of the period with some snow showers again possible around the 10th.
