QUIET WEEKEND: A few early showers in the eastern counties will quickly clear and skies will be mainly sunny the rest of the day today and Sunday as well. Readings will be in the 60s to lower 70s for highs with lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s.

NEXT WEEK: A storm system will move into the state late Monday through Tuesday with a chance of some showers and perhaps a thunderstorm as well. Temperatures will be held down on Tuesday with the rain and the amount of cloud cover down into the 50s for highs. Monday could see some brief sunshine in the eastern counties before clouds increase ahead of the storm. Rainfall amounts of at least a half inch could be possible with this system. The rest of the week looks cool and dry with readings in the 50s and lows in the 30s to near 40. We may see our first frost in some areas if the winds become light enough on some of the nights late next week.

LOOKING FARTHER OUT: It still looks cooler than average during the extended period with some active weather around the 22nd and 23rd. There will be some seasonal readings as well but continued pushes of cooler Canadian air look to prevail during this period. Another weaker system around the 26th could bring some light rain or perhaps some wintry mix depending on the temperatures. Still not enough confidence yet during this period.
