THE LAST VESTIGES OF SUMMER WEATHER: The days of seeing temperatures in the 70s to lower 80s are slowly departing our area as we get closer to the doldrums of wintertime. It will be sunny again today with increased clouds from the west. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms will be possible by the afternoon hours in the western counties of the state. This will continue eastward throughout the overnight into early on Saturday. Some areas may get up to a quarter inch of rain, others may not even see a drop. Readings behind the front will drop into the 60s to near 70 which is more typical of mid-October.

NEXT SYSTEM: The next storm will be right on the heels of this one after a wonderful weekend. Monday will see clouds increase once again with showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder entering the western counties by mid-day and moving into the rest of the state by the evening hours. This looks to continue into Tuesday as well. With the rain and clouds around, temperatures will be held down into the 50s especially on Tuesday. There could be some wrap around moisture Wednesday in the northeastern counties that could keep the temperatures down that day as well with the rest of the state seeing a slow clearing and highs in the lower 60s. Much colder air will filter in behind a somewhat dry front on Thursday which could bring the first widespread frost to the state at that time. Some clouds on Friday could bring a little bit of rain mixed with some graupel with the amount of cold air in place.

EXTENDED PERIOD: The extended period looks rather cold, rather active in some cases could be rather white as in snowy across the area, or at least close by. One storm around the 20th-23rd could bring some rain and perhaps some snow across the area, but with this being this far out, we’re not going to go all crazy with the possible chance of seeing a few flakes in two weeks time, but we’ve seen some snowy surprises in October before (1997 comes to mind) Temperatures look to stay below seasonal levels for most of the period with a few days close to average mixed in as well.
