IMPROVING WEATHER: The weather will gradually improve over the next few days with cloudy, cool and somewhat drizzly or showery weather today as the upper level support of the storm system that brought the tornadoes to northwestern Iowa Friday evening moves over the state today. It will be quite cool for this time of year with highs likely staying in the 50s all day. Some places may see a peak or two of sunshine but it will be short lived at best. Any rain today will be light with many areas only getting a tenth of an inch or less. Temperatures will modest inch upward Monday with readings back into the 60s and nearing and topping the 70° mark by the middle of the week with the return of sunny to mostly sunny skies as well.

NEXT SYSTEM: Another system will move in from the west and could bring some showers and perhaps a thunderstorm Friday across the state. Better rain chances at this point look to be the farther west you are as the main energy with this system will be moving to the west and north of the state. There could be some wet field or even some delays if any lightning is around, so be aware of that. We’ll fine tune this later on this coming week.

EXTENSION: The extended period looks rather calm to start but a few storm systems look to bring some rain to the state around the 18th and 19th and then again around the 21st. Readings look to be near seasonal levels with no huge swings at this time.
