OCTOBER CONVENING: The month of October will begin with a few sunny days with readings above seasonal levels for this time of the year. Highs in the 70s to lower and middle 80s across the state. This will be ahead of a storm system that will begin to effect the state late tomorrow night through at least part of Saturday with some precipitation at that time.
KICKOFF STORM 1: The first storm of the new month as mentioned rolls in late Wednesday with some rain showers and isolated thunderstorms at that time. This looks to continue through the day on Thursday as well with some periods of rain showers. On Friday a low pressure center looks to develop somewhere in southwestern Kansas and track to the northeast. This run has the center near Omaha at 7pm Friday evening. This could bring some showers and thunderstorms at that time with the possibility of some severe weather to go along with it. It’s still a bit uncertain at this time and we need to see a little more model data before we can be assured of that scenario. Nevertheless, it will be an active night Friday night so many high school football games across the state will be effected. Be sure if we are heading out to any games Friday night to have some source of weather information with you or at hand in case of any watches or warnings that may be issued during that time. The main window as it looks right now would be 4-5pm Friday afternoon through 1-2am Saturday Morning, this may change however. Saturday looks very blustery with a few widely scattered back-wash showers and the low pressure will begin to occlude to our north over Minnesota. We could see some breaks in the clouds but it’s highly unlikely. Temperatures will really take a tumble with readings likely struggling to make it out of the 50s in many locations. Stay tuned for the latest on this system over the coming days.
THEREAFTER: Another system looks to come through on Monday but this will come through mainly dry with perhaps a few clouds but other than a wind shift, that about all we’ll get. Readings will rebound after the cool Saturday back to near seasonal levels Sunday and maybe a few degrees warmer on Monday before it cools down once more.
BIG KAHUNA STORM: Even though this is in the extended period. This storm was seen on the model run yesterday and continues today. This storm looks to move into the state around the 9th of October and move on a similar track to the storm this coming Thursday through Saturday. There will be more cold air with this system and some snow or wintry mix could break out in the plains while we could have some showers and thunderstorms from the 9th through the 11th with the 12th looking very blustery and much colder with clouds and a few showers and temperatures probably holding in the 40s to lower 50s for highs. Welcome to fall everyone! The colder weather looks to stick around through the end of the period as well, so our first frost is likely to occur in the next two weeks if this run pans out.
