DAYS AHEAD: A system will come out into the plains later today and will bring an slight increase in cloudiness today in our western counties along with some breezy conditions out of the south and southwest. Highs today will be in the 70s across the state. Tonight the system comes into the state with the threat of a few showers and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm. This look to be confined to the northwestern counties however, as the rest of the state will remain dry. Tuesday will see some early rain possible in the northwestern counties before the system lifts northeastward and away from the state. Highs Tuesday will be a degree or two cooler with a few more clouds around with upper 60s to mid 70s across the state.

AHEAD TO THE NEXT STORM: A storm will gather well to our west around the middle of the week. This will turn the winds back southerly once again and become breezy once again, especially on Thursday. This will also boost the temperatures back toward and above 80 degrees as well. Friday the system draws close enough that the western counties may get some rain during the day, but the rest of the state remains dry once again. Some uncertainty comes in at this point as this run shows a ridge refusing to budge just to our east. This is being blocked by a slow moving system off the Canadian Maritimes. The frontal system eases into the state on Saturday with a threat of showers and thunderstorms at that time. It looks to be an all day event with some breaks here and there. The rain will end during the evening in the western counties while continuing into the overnight hours in the east. Sunday looks dry and a bit cooler.

OCTOBER FUN: It looks rather calm to start the month but then big changes are afoot as a cold front looks to drop down out of Canada on the 4th and bring MUCH colder air briefly (for about 24-36 hours) before readings retreat toward seasonal levels. Unfortunately this run shows little if any precipitation with the system but some spits of rain could be possible. Given the 540 line dropping through the state, we may see our first frost or freeze in the state but winds and clouds may keep that from happening. The GFS also shows another push of colder air a few days later at the end of the period, which leads us to believe that more fall like weather is ahead and the s word isn’t too far from these reports.
