TYPICAL FALL WEEKEND: The Autumnal Equinox comes Sunday afternoon but we’re going to get a preview of a fall weekend with sunshine and temperatures in the 60s and 70s across the state with nighttime lows in the 40s to low 50s. It will be great for any outdoor activity, including tailgating at the football game in Iowa City or camping. Winds will be light out of the northwest today and becoming a bit more breezy Sunday as winds begin to switch back around to the south.

NEXT WEEK: A disturbance will move across the northern plains into Minnesota Monday into Tuesday. This may bring a very isolated shower or storm to the northwestern counties. The rest of the state will be dry with sunshine and temperatures slowly creeping up through the 70s into the 80s by the middle of next week. A cold front looks to move into the state late Thursday night into Friday with the next best chance of showers and thunderstorms at that time.

EXTENDED PERIOD: After the frontal system passes on Saturday, the pattern calms down again, with winds turning back southerly again and readings warming back up to near 80 once again. The GFS also shows a storm system developing and moving through the area between the 2nd and 4th of October that could bring some shower and thunderstorm activity at that time. Other than that, it looks rather calm and dry.
