CALMER WEEKEND: Today into the weekend will feature much cooler conditions from the last few days with plenty of sunshine and readings in the 60s and 70s across the state. Lows Saturday morning will be in the 40s so a jacket will be need for tailgating at Kinnick Stadium before the Iowa vs Western Michigan game in Iowa City. Readings will begin a slow rise on Sunday in the western counties and Monday elsewhere as the winds switch around back to the south.

FOLLOWING THAT: The pattern gets calm and dry again outside of a very slight chance at a shower or storm late Monday in the western counties through early Tuesday morning in the east as a warm front moves through the state. This will boost the readings at least into the lower 80s across most of the state as we head into the middle of the week. A storm will approach the state by late Thursday into Friday of next week bringing chances of showers and thunderstorms along with it.

FALLING ALONG: Heading into the extended period, the GFS is showing a trough over the east and a ridge over the west. This will keep temperatures in check over the area with little if any precipitation. Some rain looks to move in around the 3rd but High Pressure over the Great Lakes noses into the area taking most of the precipitation to our south and cooling us off in the first week of October.
