FINALLY!: Cool weather to talk about for the next several days with sunny skies around. Highs today will be in the 70s north and low 80s south but the real cool weather arrives tonight when lows drop into the mid 40s to lower 50s. Friday will feel downright nippy after the heat earlier this week. Readings will range from the mid to upper 60s (that’s right 60s!) north and northeast to mid 70s south and west.

MORE RAIN CHANCES: Another storm moves in for the weekend mainly late Saturday into Sunday. The chances aren’t great and some areas again like this last system may get little to no rain once more. Currently, the Iowa vs Iowa State Football game on Saturday afternoon looks to start dry but some rain could be possible toward the end of the game as the game wears on toward evening. Rain will continue in spots through Sunday and even into Monday in the southwestern half of the state as High Pressure will nose into the Great Lakes from Canada.

NEXT WEEK: High Pressure moves away and the moisture looks to return statewide Tuesday through the middle of next week as another system looks to approach from the west. The chances of showers and storms will be isolated through the middle of next week but there is some uncertainty at this time so we’ll likely need another 24-48 hours before we can get a better grasp of this system that could bring rain chances in the state all the way through the end of the week as well.

RAIN RAIN RAIN: The extended period starts with more chances of rain the following weekend (the 21st and 22nd) and another significant storm follows up on the 23rd and 24th as well. This one could bring some decent rains if this pans out. We’ve seen runs that show a significant storm around this time period over the last few days so we’ll see if this continues on further runs. In any case the pattern does look very active for the end of the month.
