WARMING TREND: Readings will begin a slow warm up as the week progresses with readings heading into the 80s and perhaps some 90s by the end of the week especially in the western counties. There will be mainly sunny skies outside a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms late today and tonight in the far northwestern counties throughout the week before a slightly better chance of rain returns this weekend.

WEEKEND RAIN CHANCES: A frontal system will sag into the state from the north this weekend that may bring some chances of showers and thunderstorms to the state but this looks to only target the northern and northeastern counties of the state as the front begins to lift back north as a warm front late on Sunday taking any precipitation along with it into Minnesota and Wisconsin. It will be seasonally warm with highs in the 80s to lower 90s but not as bad as this past weekend or the week prior however. There is a chance however that even this chance of rain may not materialize either, but we’ll wait and see on that.

NEXT WEEK: A cold front is expected to move into the state late Tuesday night into Wednesday of next week which would bring the next widespread chance of showers and thunderstorms. The GFS doesn’t show a lot of moisture across the state as it moves through and that may mean that some areas could get no rain from this system either. Another case of wait and see.

EXTENDED DRYNESS?: The GFS is showing a more active period in the middle of the month with several storm systems approaching and possibly bringing rain to the state, but if it’s like the next two storms that are forecast to move in, they may bring little if any rain to the state. They may look nasty and wet and soaking now, but the very next model run could look bone dry and dusty. A more wait and see type forecast for the next two weeks as we head further into the month of September.
