APPROACHING HEAT WAVE: A warm front will move through the state and this could kick off a few very isolated showers and storms today across the state, but most areas will be dry, so if you’re one of the lucky ones did get some rain, be thankful because it won’t be raining again anytime soon. Temperatures today will be in the 80s east to near 90 out west. It will warm quickly into the low and mid 90s Sunday and the rest of the next week as well as the ridge parks itself over the Plains and Midwest. This will keep the storm track well to our north and keep the blazing hot sun across the sky each day. With readings up in the 90s and dew points in the 60s, this may produced heat indices above 100 on many afternoons. Some heat advisories or excessive heat warnings could be required next week across the state. Even though it is late August, this will feel more like early to mid July so take heed when doing any work outdoors, take all necessary actions during this extended heat wave.
RAIN IN SEPTEMBER: The GFS continues to show a break in the heat around the first of September with a frontal system possibly bringing us our next chance of rain at that time. The GFS then shows a weak northwesterly flow with a ridge still to our south but confidence is low given the range of what we’ve seen over the last few days, but it has been consistent on the ridge breaking down at the end of the month so the heat wave looks to extend for at least a week or so before a cooling off with some rain in about 9 days or so. We’ll see if this comes to pass.
