COOL WEEKEND: Another cooler than average and dry weekend in store for the state with readings holding in the 70s to lower 80s across the state, several degrees below the norm for this time of year. Skies will be becoming mostly sunny today and will continue into Sunday as well with clouds increasing late Sunday as another storm system approaches from the west.

MORE NEEDED RAIN: Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will be possible beginning Sunday night and lasting through at least Wednesday. It won’t be an all day event by any means with several hours of dry time in between the rounds. Some areas may only get rain on some days while others get rain every day Sunday night through Wednesday. This will lead to varied rainfall totals which should average about a half to three quarters of an inch. Some areas will get more, others less. More cooler than average weather will continue as high pressure begins to build into the state. There could be another chance of rain again late Thursday into early Friday morning as well.

FARTHER OUT: No real changes according to this run of the GFS with the cooler than average readings continuing through the period which includes the Iowa State Fair. There will be some rain chances here and there with the pattern, which will still be much needed at this time. In any case, anyone that has plans to head to the Iowa State Fair should expect pleasant temperatures with a chance of a shower or storm on any day (we can’t pinpoint it quite yet, but we should be able to as we draw closer to the time)
