SCATTERED RAIN CHANCES: A disturbance will move across the state today and early on Tuesday that may bring some rain chances to the state. The best chances look to be across the southern half of the state with the main activity likely over Missouri. The amount of cloud cover will keep temperatures down in the areas that get rain, down into the upper 60s to lower 70s. Meanwhile the rest of the state could see some peaks of sunshine with highs farther into the 70s. Tuesday will see some early day rains in the southern and southeastern counties quickly exiting the state with sunshine returning. Highs Tuesday look to be in the 70s to lower 80s.
LATER IN THE WEEK: Another quick shot of rain Wednesday looks to be followed by a sunny day Thursday with highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s across the state. The dry pattern doesn’t last long however as another storm will be moving back into the state late Thursday night into Friday. This may bring the best organized chance of showers and thunderstorms at that time. The weekend looks mainly sunny and cool with highs back into the 70s to near 80 with perhaps a few more clouds over the southern counties with the frontal system becoming nearly stationary over Missouri.
HEADING TOWARD FAIR: The extended period does show the cooler than average weather looking to continue over the state with some shower and storm threats. At this point the opening day of the Iowa State Fair on August 8th could see some rain (which may go away on the next run) with dry periods thereafter with readings comfortably at or below seasonal norms for the first half of August.
