COOL WEEKEND: The frontal system that sparked the showers and thunderstorms last night across part of the state will be moving out during the morning hours today. Some lingering showers and isolated storms are possible through the morning and early afternoon hours in the far eastern counties of the state while the rest of the state will see partly to mostly sunny skies. Highs today will be cooler with readings mainly in the 70s. A few locations in northern Iowa may struggle to get out of the 60s. Tonight and again Saturday night will see clear to partly cloudy skies with lows dropping into the upper 40s to mid 50s across the state. A comfortable night to open the windows and let the fresh air in. This will continue into Sunday as well with highs that day in the 70s as well.
NEXT WEEK: Several dry days in store with a few rain chances interwoven in. Temperatures look to remain at or below seasonal levels for the week with 70s to low 80s Any rain chances look to be Tuesday night over the southern half of the state and Thursday night into next Friday over the entire state. No big systems or heat waves seen at this time.
ON TO FAIR: As we draw closer to the state fair, the GFS does show a slight pattern shift with warm southerly winds blowing in warmer air to the state all the way up to the beginning of the fair. This would be followed by a possible storm around the Friday the 9th of August lasting until Saturday the 10th. With that still two weeks out, confidence in that forecast is low at this time but we’ll continue to watch for any noted trends.
