NO VIDEO TODAY

RAIN TODAY: There is a good chance of some showers and thunderstorms today across the state. Temperatures will be held down slightly with the amount of cloud cover and rain around with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Rainfall amounts of at least a half inch are certainly possible with isolated heavier totals. It does look like a wet ride for most of the day for RAGBRAI but if the rain can move off to the east quick enough there may be some dry periods by the afternoon into the evening.

MORE RAIN: Something the farmers want to hear with the recent dry weather across the state that another complex of showers and thunderstorms are possible again Monday night into Tuesday, possibly a MCS. The HI-Res NAM shows that this will mainly effect central and western Iowa but it could certainly effect most of the state as well. Severe weather doesn’t look likely at this time but we’ll keep watch. Another front moves through Thursday night into Friday with another chance of showers and thunderstorms at that time as well. Next weekend looks great with plenty of sunshine and readings near or slightly below seasonal levels with High Pressure moving in from the north and northwest.

FOLLOWING WEEKS: No big changes looking into the extended period. Temperatures look to remain near seasonal levels with a ridge over the west and a trough over the east. The GFS is showing an upper level feature moving along the northwesterly flow around the 2nd of August and parking just to the east of the state through the end of the period. This would bring more rain to the state if this was to pan out, but this is the first we’ve seen this so it could be gone on the very next run. Nevertheless, the pattern looks to be more conducive to rainfall than the previous two weeks where we got little to no rain.
