ISOLATED ACTIVITY: An upper level disturbance will retrograde into the area from the east today and will bring a slight chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms beginning today and lasting through Independence Day on Thursday. Temperatures will still be below average with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s today through Thursday. At this time there doesn’t look to be any issues with regards to any firework displays that will take place Thursday evening, but it’ll all depend on the coverage that develops that afternoon so things may change.

WARMING TREND: The upper level disturbance and trough will finally move out early on Friday and winds will begin to switch around to the south and southwest bringing warmer air and more typical temperatures seen for the early part of July. This looks to continue throughout the weekend into early next week before a storm system approaches from the west. This will increase the chances of showers and thunderstorms at that time specifically on Monday into next Tuesday.

TYPICAL WEATHER: The extended period is showing a ridge, not as pronounced as the current one over the southwest, putting us in the northwesterly flow once again. If this was to pan out we would be in the battleground once again between the warm weather over the southwest and the cooler air over the Great Lakes. That would be possible repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms once again over the area. We’ll have to keep watch for this unsettling trend as the last time we had this pattern a week or so ago, it brought a lot of rain to the state along with some river flooding as well. Something many don’t want to rerun so quickly.
