THE WEEK AHEAD: It’s going to cool down across the state this weekend into early next week with a somewhat comfortable 4th of July ahead with maybe a few rain drops intermixed between then and now. Today will see some sunshine with perhaps a few passing showers in the afternoon hours as a disturbance comes down from the north. Highs today will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s. Showers and a few storms are possible again on Saturday, nothing like the heavy rain we saw in some areas earlier this week but nevertheless rainfall that is generally not needed in many areas except perhaps the southern counties. Temperatures will fall off into the 70s Saturday with clouds and rain around and may only inch upward to near 80 by the 4th of July.
EXTENDED PERIOD: The GFS wants to continue the cooler than average temperatures passed the 4th of July holiday period with perhaps some more organized shower and thunderstorm activity around the 5th-7th. High Pressure looks to build in across the Great Lakes keeping most of the heat bottled up in the west, which given last summer’s heat is ok by some people. We’ll see if that trend continues in future runs.
