FAIRLY CALM WEEK: Today we’ll see clouds eroding and some sunshine returning to the state. However readings won’t be cooler with 80s likely across the state. A disturbance will move through the area late tonight into Monday that may spark off a few isolated showers and storms but they’ll be few and far between with many not getting much if anything. The rest of the coming work week sees high pressure nearby keeping the skies clear and the temperatures down into the 70s to lower 80s with much less humidity.

NEXT WEEKEND: A storm system will be approaching from the west and northwest as early as Friday but most likely Saturday into Sunday with a chance of some showers and thunderstorms. This run of the GFS seems to be a bit drier than a few of the other models earlier on, so we’ll have to see if this continues. In any case there will be a chance of showers and storms both days next weekend.

HOT TIMES IN IOWA: It’s starting to look like the end of June into the first of July could be quite steamy across the state with a 594 heat bubble over the state. This would bring temperatures well into the 90s if this was to be correct, perhaps a few places nearing the century mark. Given the amount of soil moisture currently it could be quite humid as well and this may lead to some afternoon thunderstorms. We’ll have to wait and see.
