MORE LIKE SUMMER: Temperatures are going to feel more like they should for June as warm air will begin to move into the state this week. Today will see a few morning clouds giving way to some sunshine from west to east. Readings will respond in earnest with 70s to lower 80s across the state. Warmer readings come Tuesday with readings well into the 80s across the state, perhaps even a few lower 90s in SW Iowa into Nebraska. With this surge of warmer air comes the threat of showers and thunderstorms and those look to move in Tuesday night.

PERIODS OF STORMS: Tuesday night through Thursday looks to be somewhat stormy across the area, but it will likely occur during the evening through the overnight hours into the morning hours of the following day. This will be with some MCS’s that are likely to form off to our west or northwest and sweep through the state. Most of the daytime hours should be dry with perhaps some cloud debris or even a few early showers during the morning hours. Severe weather is possible Tuesday evening into the overnight hours across the northern half of the state where SPC has a slight risk of severe weather. The main threat will likely be from some damaging straight line winds with perhaps a small chance of some hail with them as well. We may see a repeat of this again Friday night through the upcoming weekend as well with several rounds of mostly overnight showers and thunderstorms. We’ll have to see if any of this activity could be severe as well as we get closer.

SUMMERY: The pattern in the long term looks more summer like as we head further into the month of June with warm to sometimes hot days with some periods of showers and thunderstorms. No real trends are foreseen at this time with regards to the timing of any particular storm system but this will likely change wildly as is the case with summertime systems in the Midwest.
