STORMY WEEKEND: More stormy weather is in the offing both today and tomorrow with a storm system moving in from the west. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible by the mid-day hours over the western half of the state with the chances increasing eastward into the afternoon and especially the evening and overnight hours. Some of the storms, especially early could be severe especially in the southwestern and west central counties of the state where the SPC has a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight. The main threats would likely be from large hail and damaging straight line winds as the storms develop and move through. Sunday looks somewhat stormy as well as the system moves across the state but severe weather isn’t anticipated at this time with Sunday’s activity. Temperatures both today and tomorrow will be in the upper 60s to middle 70s for highs.

MORE ACTIVITY NEXT WEEK: The active pattern looks to continue into next week with a warm front moving across the state Tuesday through the early part of Thursday. This will be in response to a heat ridge building across the southern Plains states. We could see repeated periods of showers and thunderstorms possibly at night across the area with much of the daytime hours seeing a few early showers and storms and possibly some isolated activity in the afternoon into early evening. Some of these storms could pack a punch as well but it will be dependent on the placement of the front, any outflow boundaries set up from the previous nights activity if there is any and the like. Temperatures do look to tick upward into the low 80s if we can see some plentiful amounts of sunshine around.

CORRIDOR OF WATER: Another system looks to make an appearance by Friday into Saturday with another round of showers and thunderstorms. This will be quick moving and shouldn’t last more than 12-18 hours. After that as we head into the extended period, the GFS continues to have numerous chances of showers and thunderstorms moving through the state with a fairly quick zonal flow over our part of the country. This could become an issue if any areas get repeated heavy rains which may lead to the rivers flooding once again. Several are still running high or in still in flood at this time. We’ll continue to watch model runs to see if this trend continues over the next few days.
