RAIN RAIN HEADING AWAY: A little bit of isolated shower activity possible today with perhaps a tenth or so of an inch possible, but most of the significant rain and thunderstorms will be east and south of the state today through the rest of the weekend. Sunshine will try and break out across the state but temperatures will be down into the 60s to lower 70s for highs both today and Sunday which will be somewhat enjoyable.
FLOODING CONCERNS: Numerous rivers are still under flood warnings with rivers still rising or nearing crest through the weekend into early next week. Several have hit new records over the last few days and more will be at major flood stage if they’re not already there. One good thing is that it looks to stay dry through the weekend into at least most of Monday before the next storm approaches from the west with more shower and thunderstorm activity through at least Thursday. At this time, the rainfall from that system next week will be under an inch total, but any rain at this point will just prolong flooding concerns and exacerbate it.
FARTHER ALONG: Another storm may approach the state by next weekend as well with more shower and thunderstorm activity. There could be severe weather with that but it’s too early to determine that at this time. The pattern looks to stay somewhat active with a slight northwesterly flow which is not conducive to severe weather outbreaks but it will keep the state at or just slightly below seasonal levels for this time of year. After last Summers heat, we could certainly use some cooler than average weather to start out with.
