It seems like it will never end. From severe weather to flooding, we’ve been seeing the same thing over and over again for the past two or three days. Flash Flood Warnings, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, and River Flood Warnings seem to be a common thing now. Well, here goes round three.
The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has posted an slight risk of severe weather for the all of Iowa today and tomorrow. Ingredients are coming together to support an unstable atmosphere, including modest shear, a big player in severe weather events, to produce supercells capable of a large hail, damaging winds, and a tornado threat. Storms are on tap to begin in the mid afternoon to early afternoon and really start kicking in the mid evening. The primary threats with this are an enhanced large hail threat and of course, a flash flooding threat. Flooding has already occurred all over the state and this will not help the situation. The same thing will repeat itself again Thursday over the state as well with all modes possible again including the threat for more heavy rain and flooding. (Look at IWR for the outlook maps)
I can not stress to you how important it is to keep safe during this period. Flash Flooding is very dangerous and not a good situation to be in. TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN. Stay tuned to the Iowa Weather Network for the latest information on this system.
