ACTIVE WEATHER ON HORIZON: Coming upon an active period across the state with several rounds of shower and thunderstorm activity. Some of which could contain some severe weather. The chances begin later today as the front which has stalled just to the south of the state begins to lift north slowly as a warm front. A few showers and storms will be possible along with with some brief heavy rains but severe weather doesn’t look likely at this point (although not entirely out of the question) Friday looks to see some widespread rain (not all day however) with the front still moving through. Saturday looks to be the quietest day of the next few with the next system approaching from the west. This moves in Sunday through Tuesday with some shower and thunderstorm activity at this time. This is where the severe weather chances will ramp up. We’ll need to keep an eye on this over the next few days as this storm draws closer. Any slight variation in the track could take the severe weather out of the state or possibly increase the threat even more during the latter half of the weekend into Monday.
FARTHER OUT: Looking toward the Memorial day Weekend, a 588mb ridge looks to form over the area bringing with it some warmer and much drier conditions to the state. I don’t think it’ll be as hot as what it was in Sioux City earlier in the week, but readings in the 90s aren’t entirely out of the question if this pattern were to hold. It looks to break down late Monday (Memorial Day) into Tuesday the 28th with a system tracking just to our north that could bring an isolated shower or storm Tuesday into perhaps Wednesday across the state. We’ll keep watch on this as well for any more trends.
