WET WEATHER RETURNS: Showers and thunderstorms will return to the area today and continue into Thursday as a Upper Low over South Dakota begins to move East. Overall precipitation with this system should remain under a half inch in most areas with locally higher amounts in Northwestern Iowa. Severe weather is not anticipated at this time but some instability will exist to cause dangerous lightning, heavy rain, and possibly some very small hail in some areas. Wednesday Night precipitation should subside as forcing becomes less available and return again Thursday with convergence and daytime heating. As the Upper Low moves out of the area, showers should be completely gone by Thursday night before cold weather sweeps into the area.
CHILLY THEN DRY AND HOT: The weekend is expected to be remaining dry after the Upper Low moves out of the area. Colder air will arrive Friday evening into the overnight hours as a Cold Front passes through with temperatures high’s in the upper 50’s to mid 60’s for the weekend and low’s in the low 40’s to mid 50’s. Frost will be possible on Saturday with the peak of the coldest low temperatures, with low 40’s into the upper 40’s forecasted for many places. A chance of an isolated shower is possible with this system, but should remain generally dry with not much moisture available. After the weekend, expect dry weather with a rapid recovery of temperatures. The GFS is showing a +18 to +24 at 850mb by Tuesday… easily putting readings in the mid 80’s to the 90’s. High pressure will then move into the area and keep us dry for at least a little while.
