DISCUSSION
A GOOD WAY TO START THE WEEK: Patchy fog will be the primary headline over the next couple of days as snow across the area continues to melt. The majority of it melted yesterday with some of it left in the North, which is why patchy fog is a possibility over the next few days. Partly Cloudy skies will be the prominent weather around the region as High Pressure builds into Northwest Iowa early today with high’s in the low 60’s north to around 70 south. This trend is expected to continue over the next couple of days before another disturbance arrives on Wednesday.
BACK TO THUNDERSTORMS: A surface low is forecasted to develop in the Southern Plains on Wednesday while a warm front sets up shop in Southern Iowa. Along the boundary of these two systems, moisture will be prevalent as the larger surface low begins to build north bringing in thunderstorm chances for Wednesday into Friday. Currently, we look like it will primarily hit south of US Highway 20, with better chances the farther south you go. Total rainfall accumulation with this system should remain under an inch. Temperatures will remain consistent with this system and into the end of the work week in the mid 60’s to mid 70’s with low’s in the 40’s and 50’s.
LONG PERIOD OF QUIET WEATHER AHEAD: The end of the work week will likely bring a cool down but overall dry weather. A 500 MB trough is forecasted to move down from Canada into Southern Minnesota by Saturday morning. Along with this trough, a strong cold front will enter the area on Friday night and into Saturday, which will sweep any precipitation chances for the majority of the weekend and beginning of the work week. By the end of the week, temperatures will cool from the upper 60’s and mid 60’s to the upper 50’s to mid 60’s, which is slightly below normal for this time of year.
