MAY WINTER BE ON THE WAY OUT: The storm that brought historic snows to Iowa and parts of the Midwest is still around, however the the precipitation will become more rain than snow today as 850mb temperatures begin to warm back above freezing. This is in part to moisture and some warmth coming in from the south and southeast wrapping around this large cut off low to our south. Rain/snow mix will changeover to all rain by late in the day over the entire state. Some of the rain could be significant with an inch or more possible. The rain continues into Saturday with Sunday seeing the rain becoming more scattered and slowly moving off to the east. Temperatures will begin to warm as we head into the next work week.
MORE MAY LIKE: Temperatures will be back near seasonal levels in the western counties Monday and statewide by Tuesday. The GFS is showing some precipitation Monday-Wednesday, but this is likely to be some fog that could form over the area each of the nights with the amount of precipitation we’ll have received over the last few days. The next system approaches on Thursday from the west and southwest. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible Thursday night into Friday. Severe weather doesn’t look likely at this time with the low pressure center across Texas, but we’ll keep watch for any changes over the next few days.
FARTHER AHEAD: A few storm systems to move over the area through the middle of the month. This will more some shower and thunderstorm activity to the state. Severe weather could be possible but it’s much too early at this time to discuss that. One thing for certain is we see no signs of any winter weather mischief hopefully at least through November after this storm we’ve had.
