DOWNBURST

* EVENT LOCATION… NEAR SCHUYLER TO WEST OF FREMONT

* PEAK WIND ESTIMATE… JUST OVER 100 MPH

* AVERAGE PATH WIDTH… 1 1/2 MILES WIDE

* PATH LENGTH… AROUND 24 MILES

* DISCUSSION/DAMAGE…NUMEROUS CENTER PIVOT IRRIGATION SYSTEMS
TIPPED OVER. POWER POLES AND TREES SNAPPED. EMPTY COAL TRAIN
DERAILED. MOBILE HOME THAT WAS NOT TIED DOWN DESTROYED. THERE
WAS NO EVIDENCE OF CONVERGENT WINDS THAT WOULD INDICATE A
TORNADO. THE WIND SWATH APPEARED TO BE DIVERGENT AT MANY
POINTS…INDICATING A DOWNBURST WITH WIND SPEEDS JUST OVER 100
MPH.
