The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has posted a Slight Risk of Severe Weather for most of Southern Iowa on the day Tuesday, primarily south of Highway 34. A large area of organized severe potential with all modes of severe weather will begin to form across the area on Tuesday afternoon and last until Wednesday morning.

The area with the best chances of severe weather are possible in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas, where the Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a possible moderate risk for later outlooks. They have already outlined a 30% risk for this area, rather than the usual 15%.

Models have been fluctuating over these storms in the last couple of days and will likely continue. However, they have been more consistent with it in the last 24-48 hours, therefore giving the SPC more confidence to highlight a slight risk for this time period.

While this won’t be a huge severe weather event, it still would be a good idea to stay tuned for further forecasts and possible watches or warnings. Make sure your weather radio is functioning and keep it here to the Iowa Weather Network for the latest forecasts and updates.
