RUMBLIN RAINY SATURDAY: Showers and a few thunderstorms will traverse the skies over Iowa today. Amounts will range from a quarter to half inch with isolated heavier totals in areas that receive thunderstorms. The rain and storms will move out of western Iowa by Noon, Central Iowa by late afternoon into the evening and the eastern counties late tonight. Temperatures today will continue to stay warm with highs in the 50s to lower 60s.

EASTER TRANSITION: A transition into cooler weather will take place on Sunday, skies will be partly to mostly sunny with increasing clouds late in the day from the northwest. It will be quite breezy as well with readings ranging from near 40 in northern Iowa to near 60 in the south. Some rain mixed with snow will move into the state Sunday night mainly over the western and southern counties of the state. Little if any accumulation is likely with this system as the disturbance rounds the base of the trough carved out by the storm that is moving through today. Readings into next week will start out cool with 40s to near 50 for highs with a gradual warm up into the end of the week.

MIDDLE OF MONTH: Looking out into the longer term, a storm system moves into the Plains States around the 8th and 9th of April. Winds here would turn southerly and readings would warm well into the 60s perhaps 70s. Showers and thunderstorms may move into the state around the 11th. Some of them if this model run pans out could be severe, but it’s way too early to determine that this far out. We’re just looking for trends at this time. The rest of the time period looks warm with some chances of precipitation as well.
