Winter Weather Advisory Tonight through Monday for NW Iowa

URGENT – WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SIOUX FALLS SD
441 AM CDT SUN MAR 17 2013

.LOW PRESSURE WILL BE APPROACHING THE TRI STATE AREA THIS
AFTERNOON WHICH WILL CAUSE RAIN TO BEGIN TO DEVELOP MAINLY WEST OF
THE MISSOURI RIVER. BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON…THE RAIN WILL BECOME
MIXED WITH SNOW AND EVENTUALLY BECOME ALL SNOW BY EARLY THIS
EVENING IN AREAS EAST OF THE JAMES RIVER VALLEY. BESIDES THE SNOW
THAT FALLS THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT…NORTHWEST WINDS WILL BE
INCREASING MONDAY MORNING WHICH MAY CAUSE AREAS OF REDUCED
VISIBILITIES DUE TO THE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW.

7 PM CDT MONDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SIOUX FALLS HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW…WHICH IS IN EFFECT
FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM CDT MONDAY.

* TIMING…RAIN WILL CHANGE TO SNOW EARLY THIS EVENING AND
CONTINUE INTO MONDAY MORNING. STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS WILL
DEVELOP LATE TONIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE DAY ON MONDAY.

* ACCUMULATIONS…1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW IS LIKELY ALONG AND NORTH
OF A LINE FROM DE SMET TO SIOUX FALLS TO LE MARS IOWA.

* WIND AND VISIBILITY…NORTHWEST WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS
TO 45 MPH WILL DEVELOP BY EARLY MONDAY MORNING WHICH WILL CAUSE
AREAS OF REDUCED VISIBILITIES DUE TO THE BLOWING AND DRIFTING
SNOW. EVEN THOUGH THE WINDS WONT BE AS STRONG TONIGHT…THERE
COULD BE PERIODS OF REDUCED VISIBILITIES AS THE SNOW IS
FALLING.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS THAT
VISIBILITIES WILL BE LIMITED DUE TO A COMBINATION OF FALLING AND
BLOWING SNOW. USE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING…ESPECIALLY IN OPEN
AREAS.
