COOL WEEKEND: This weekend will be slightly below average referring to temperatures across the state. Readings will be mainly in the 30s to lower to mid 40s across the state today with 30s to lower 40s on Sunday. There will be a few more clouds on Saturday with a departing disturbance and some increasing clouds Sunday with the next storm in the offing coming late Sunday night into Monday.

MONDAY SYSTEM: The storm on Monday doesn’t look particularly fierce at this time and with little moisture along it, only a few rain or snow showers will be possible beginning late Sunday night through the day Monday across the area. Perhaps an inch or two of snow is possible as many of the models have indicated a little more or a little less than that, but it shouldn’t be that big of a problem. Colder air will come in behind the storm Tuesday into Wednesday with readings back into the 30s through the middle of the week.

LATE WEEK SYSTEM: Another storm moves in Thursday into Friday that could also bring a wintry mix to the state as well. Current indications suggest that the precipitation may start out as a rain snow mix or perhaps some ice before switching to some rain (especially in the southern counties) before changing back over to some snow. This storm does look to have more moisture with it as the Gulf of Mexico will be wide open, but with the Greenland Block to take hold, dry cool air will try to weed out much of the precipitation especially the farther northeast you are in the state. We still have several more days to look at this system but as of right now the better chances look to be across southern and western Iowa.

BLOCK BREAKDOWN: The Greenland Block looks to break down in about a weeks time which will allow temperatures to moderate toward the end of the month with a ridge building over the center part of the country. The active pattern looks to continue as well with several storms that may bring decent amounts of precipitation to the state. We’ll continue to watch this over the next several days.
