A FEW PRECIP CHANCES: It will be a much quieter week across the state with a few disturbances that may bring a few flurries, sprinkles or snow showers to the state. The first comes today with a few flurries or snow showers across the area. Little if anything will accumulate from this activity. Highs will be in the upper 20s through the 30s. Wednesday will be mostly sunny with readings about the same as today, 20s and 30s. Thursday another system swings in from the northwest ahead of a warmer push of air. This may also bring some light snow, flurries or perhaps some rain showers across the area, mainly in the northeastern half of the state. Up to a tenth of an inch of liquid equivalent is possible, then readings will warm Friday before a storm skirts the state to the north but brings temperatures back down by the weekend.
CLIPPER FUN: A clipper will move in late in the weekend into Monday of next week which will reenforce the cooler air. Limited moisture with this system would indicate some light snow (perhaps a mix) in most areas. However this could change (as numerous models have differed with what this storm may bring) We have plenty of time to watch it in future model runs. The storm moves out Monday evening and night and next Tuesday looks dry with another storm beginning to take shape off to our west.
THE ACTIVE TIMES: The GFS has been wavering of late on the active period toward the end of the month, but this run continues to show some activity of some concern. One such storm by the middle of next week beginning next Wednesday night (20th) and lasting through Friday night (22nd). The model is showing a storm moving south of the state, but with the Gulf open for business, plenty of moisture will be around. With the 540 line bisecting the state west to east, we could be in for some interesting weather if this was to pan out. Several more storms are in the offing as well and with the NAO trending negative for the latter half of the month, it’s looking like most of the precipitation will be more white then wet.
