NORTHEAST NEBRASKA AS BEING IN EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT (D4)…WITH
NEARLY ALL OF THE REST OF THE REGION IN EAST-CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA…
SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA…AND NORTHWEST IOWA BEING CLASSIFIED IN EXTREME
DROUGHT (D3). AREAS IN EAST-CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA BETWEEN HIGHWAY 34
AND HIGHWAY 14 ARE CLASSIFIED IN SEVERE DROUGHT (D2). FROST DEPTHS
RANGE FROM 0 TO 8 INCHES IN THE SOUTHWESTERN AREAS…10 TO 20 INCHES
IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEASTERN AREAS…AND OVER 20 INCHES IN PARTS
OF THE NORTH.
CURRENT STREAM CONDITIONS…THE LARGER RIVERS AND STREAMS IN THE
REGION ARE RUNNING NEAR NORMAL TO BELOW FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. MANY
OF THE SMALLER STREAMS AND CREEKS ARE RUNNING WELL BELOW NORMAL. ALL
RIVERS AND STREAMS IN THE AREA ARE STILL ICE COVERED.
CURRENT SNOW CONDITIONS…THERE IS 2 INCHES OR LESS SNOW COVER FROM
I-90 SOUTHWARD. MOST AREAS BETWEEN I-90 AND A LINE FROM FORESTBURG
SD TO WINDOM MN HAVE 2 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW ON THE GROUND…AND THE
NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE REGION HAVE 10 TO 20 INCHES. THE WATER
CONTENT OF THE SNOWPACK RANGES FROM 0 TO 1 INCH IN THE SOUTHERN AND
CENTRAL AREAS TO 2 TO 4 INCHES IN THE NORTH.
