WARMER END TO WEEK: Sunshine and warmer temperatures will end the week across the state with highs in the 30s and 40s. Some early morning fog is possible in heavily snow packed areas. Some icy patches could be possible on road surfaces were any snow that melted yesterday may have refrozen once again. This should not be a problem after mid-morning.

WEEKEND WEATHER FUN: A new storm system moves into the state late tonight and through the weekend bringing with it a plethora of precipitation. Some of the precipitation could be in the form of some sleet, snow or freezing rain to start especially in our northern and eastern counties. Any accumulations should remain light as the bulk of the precipitation will occur during the daylight hours on Saturday when temperatures are expected to be well above the freezing mark. Some thunder is also possible with this system but will be mainly confined to the southern third to half of the state. As the system begins to lift out, colder air will filter in behind the system Saturday night into Sunday changing the precipitation from rain to snow. Some accumulations of snow are possible mainly across our northwestern counties of the state. Most of the precipitation will have moved off to the east by the time the cold air filters in from the north and west. Rainfall or equivalent liquid amounts are expected to be between three quarters of an inch and one and a quarter inches. This will be beneficial but may cause some unneeded problems with regards to melting snow, rain and some clogged drains on streets. This may cause some isolated street flooding in some areas where the drainage is either blocked by snow or is poor to begin with. More on this storm forthcoming in the next 24 hours.

INTO NEXT WEEK: Skies will clear Monday with slightly cooler readings back into the 30s. Tuesday may see some more clouds and perhaps a few sprinkles or flurries but nothing to write home about. It turns cooler Wednesday and Thursday with cold air flooding the eastern half of the country. The main core of the cold looks to miss the state and readings will start climbing once more on Friday as another storm approaches from the west at that time. The model continues to hint at several possible storm systems in the extended period with shots of cooler air falling in behind them. Not seeing any big cold snaps are big warm ups in the near term however.
