CALMER WEEKEND: Skies will be slowly clearing from west to east today as the storm that brought the snow Thursday into Friday moves farther to the north and east. Highs today will be in the 20s to lower 30s. Sunday will see partly to mostly sunny skies with increasing clouds late in the day as the next storm system will be approaching. Readings in the upper 20s to mid 30s will be possible.

NEXT SYSTEM: The models have trended farther south with this next system that will bring some snow and perhaps a little wintry mix to the southern half of the state. The northern half may get by with a few flurries or light snow showers but that’s about it. The southern half however could get some accumulating snow again. Right now amounts look to be between 2-5″, heaviest near the Iowa Missouri Border. This may change if we get more warm air that could bring some wintry mix into the equation or dry air comes in similar to this past storm that also may cut down storm totals. Right now this doesn’t look like a repeat of what we had Thursday into Friday.

LINGERING WINTER: The storm as it moves to the east may bring some backwash snow to the state and this could last into Wednesday and perhaps into Thursday as well in the eastern half of the state. We have seen all sorts of ideas regarding this over the last few days so any specifics on that we’ll have to wait at least a day or so to get a better handle on that. One thing is for certain is that cold air will win the battle and cooler than average temperatures look to last as we head into the month of March.
