WINTER WEEKEND: The weather will be more like February this weekend with some flurry chances once again today. Highs today will be in the 20s to lower 30s across the state. Some flurry activity is possible especially with daytime heating. Flurries will continue into tonight before ending with mainly sunny skies Saturday with readings perhaps a degree or two warmer.

JUST OUTSIDE: The Monday into Tuesday storm looks to miss most of the state now. Perhaps the far southeastern counties may get some precipitation, most areas will likely see some clouds with partly sunny skies in the northwestern half of the state. Readings will be in the 20s and lower 30s again as another shot of cold air comes in behind the storm system that will be phasing up as it moves away from us.

END OF WEEK SYSTEM: This is the storm that will keep our attention for the next few days. A storm system will move out of the central Rockies into the Plains late Wednesday night and Thursday. The Gulf of Mexico will be open for a return flow along with cold air at the surface, we are likely to see some snow breaking out by the early morning hours on Thursday across the western counties of the state. This will sweep across the area Thursday into Friday. Most of the precipitation will be in the form of snow, but a wintry mix can’t be ruled out. The low is a bit farther south than yesterday so rain is likely out of the question at this time. Significant amounts are possible but it’s too early to determine exact figures at this early hour. we may be able to give a guesstimate by the end of the weekend.

MORE SYSTEMS: The pattern still looks active at the end of the month, but not as much as earlier runs have shown. Many of the storms on this model run are moving south of the state just grazing Iowa with some light precipitation. The cold air looks to keep its hold on the state however, given how much snow we get from the system late next week will determine that in due time.
