CHANGES AHEAD: Today will be a seasonably warm day across the state with plenty of sunshine around. Highs across the state will range from the upper 30s in northern and northeastern Iowa into the lower 50s over the southwestern counties of the state. Clouds will be on the increase ahead of a quick moving clipper system that will move across the state late tonight and especially Thursday. Moisture still looks rather limited with this system, so a few flurries or light snow showers will be possible but nothing in terms of any accumulation is likely with this system. Temperatures however will take a dive back into the 20s to near 30 for highs Friday and Saturday.

SKIMMED BY A STORM: Outside of a few flurries Saturday night with a weak disturbance drifting through the state, the next best chance of precipitation will come Monday into Tuesday with a storm that will just skirt the southern and eastern counties of the state. The precipitation at this time looks to be in the form of some rain and or snow mix. It will be dependent on air and surface temperatures at that time. Another shot of cold air will follow that storm into the middle of next week.

BUSY LATTER HALF: The GFS is still showing a fairly active period through the end of the month of February. One storm toward the end of next week and another a few days thereafter may bring some decent amounts of precipitation to the state. Along with the more active weather pattern it looks to stay at or just below seasonal readings for the next two weeks or so. This may change in future model runs however.
