BACK TO COLD: Today will be a windy and changeable day across the state as a storm system will move over the state. This will produce blizzard conditions across Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota while in Iowa we’ll see anything from a wintry mix in the northern counties early and again late in the northwestern counties to some rain and embedded thunder in the southern and southeastern counties. Highs will be varied from the mid to upper 30s in far northwest Iowa to the lower 50s in SE Iowa. The cold air will win the battle as the cold front sweeps quickly through the state. The precipitation will change over to some wintry mix and snow by late evening, but amounts are expected to be light by that time as most of the moisture will be off to the east. Monday will see some clouds and a few snow showers with readings in the 20s and 30s across the state.
COLD AIR PLUNGE: Another shot of cold air will be reinforced Thursday with a clipper system that will bring a few flurries or snow showers at that time. Most of the moisture with that system will stay to our north and northeast. This would bring temperatures down below seasonal levels heading into next weekend however with perhaps highs toward the end of the week into the weekend in the teens and 20s across the state.
BIG BAD NASTY!: GFS is showing a very big storm moving across the middle part of the country in about two weeks time. This was also seen on the 18z run as well at the same time frame. If this were to hold true we would get another plethora of precipitation types once again along with windy conditions and possible snow around the back side. Don’t start running for the shovels and snow plows just yet. This may go away on the very next run.
